Sylvester Palm Trees
The Phoenix sylvestris typically reaches heights ranging from 4 to 15 meters and can have a diameter of up to 15 inches (40 cm). Although not as large as the Canary Island Date Palm, it closely resembles it. Its leaves, measuring 10 ft. (7.5 to 10 meters) tall, containing as many as 100 leaves. The inflorescence, growing up to 1 meter in length, bears white, unisexual flowers that develop into a large, hanging cluster of fruits. The single-seeded fruits ripen to a purple-red color.
Cold Hardiness:
Sylvester Palm Trees are reasonably cold hardy down to approximately 15° F. USDA plant hardiness zone 8b to 11.
