Sabal Palm Trees

Sabal palms, scientifically known as Sabal palmetto, are iconic symbols of the southeastern United States, renowned for their resilience and classic palm appearance. These palms can grow up to 40 feet (12 meters) tall, with a distinctive grayish-brown trunk that is stout and columnar, often slightly swollen at the base. The large, fan-shaped leaves can span 5 to 6.5 feet (1.5 to 2 meters) in diameter, with deeply divided segments that give them a bushy and tropical appearance. Sabal palms produce creamy-white flowers in dense clusters that emerge from among the leaves, followed by small, black spherical fruits that are an important food source for wildlife. They thrive in a variety of soil types, from sandy coastal areas to moist, well-drained soils inland, and are highly tolerant of salt spray and wind, making them ideal choices for coastal landscapes. Sabal palms are widely used in landscaping for their robust nature, providing both shade and a sense of tropical elegance to parks, avenues, and residential gardens throughout their native range.

Cold Hardiness:

Sabal Fan Palm Trees are reasonably cold hardy down to approximately 15° F. USDA plant hardiness zone 8b.
