Roebelenii (Pygmy Date) Palm Trees

Phoenix roebelenii is a slender, small to medium-sized tree that grows slowly to heights of 2–7 meters (6.6–23.0 feet). Its pinnate leaves, 60–120 cm (24–47 inches) long, feature about 100 leaflets arranged in a single plane, distinguishing it from P. loureiroi, which has leaflets in two planes. Each leaflet measures 15–25 cm (6–10 inches) in length and 1 cm in width, with a slightly drooping posture and grey-green coloration complemented by scurfy pubescence on the underside. The tree produces small, yellowish flowers on a 45 cm (18 inches) inflorescence and bears edible 1 cm drupes resembling small, thin-fleshed dates. Additionally, it develops strong, spiny thorns ranging 2-4 inches in length, located on the leaf stems near the trunk, extending 6-12 inches.

Cold Hardiness:

Roebelenii Palm Trees are cold hardy down to approximately 25° F. USDA plant hardiness zone 9B to 10A.
