Canary Island Date Palm Trees

Canary Island Date palms, scientifically known as Phoenix canariensis, are grand and imposing trees cherished for their dramatic presence and ornamental value. Native to the Canary Islands, these palms can soar to heights of 30 feet (10 meters) or more, crowned by a dense canopy of gracefully arching, pinnate leaves that can span up to 8 feet (2.5 meters) in length. The leaves are a deep green color, complemented by stout and often curved trunks that are typically grey-brown in hue and marked with distinct leaf scars. Canary Island Date palms produce creamy-yellow flowers in large clusters, followed by small, oval-shaped fruits that turn orange when ripe. Resilient and adaptable, they thrive in Mediterranean climates but can also tolerate mild frosts and coastal conditions. These palms are iconic in landscapes worldwide, admired for their stately appearance and ability to provide both shade and visual impact in parks, avenues, and botanical gardens.

Cold Hardiness:

Canary Island Date Palm Trees are reasonably cold hardy down to approximately 20° F. USDA plant hardiness zone 9 to 11.
