Bismarck Palm Trees

Bismarck palms, scientifically named Bismarckia nobilis, are majestic and iconic trees renowned for their striking blue-grey foliage and stout, silver-green trunks. Native to Madagascar, these palms can reach impressive heights of up to 30 to 40 feet (9 to 12 meters) with a crown spread of about 16 feet (5 meters). Their large, fan-shaped leaves can span over 6.5 feet (2 meters) in diameter, featuring a distinctive silvery-blue coloration that stands out in any landscape. Bismarck palms produce small yellow flowers held in dense clusters on branched inflorescences, followed by spherical, brown fruits about 1.2 inches (3 centimeters) in diameter. These palms are prized for their drought tolerance, making them suitable for arid and semi-arid climates, although they also thrive in tropical and subtropical regions. Widely used in gardens, parks, and large estates, Bismarck palms create a dramatic focal point with their bold foliage and robust stature.

Cold Hardiness:

Bismarck Palm Trees are reasonably cold hardy down to approximately 30° F. USDA plant hardiness zone 10a.
